DEBUTANT Jonathan Wafula earned Matlock all three points.
Matlock’s resilience won the day – they kept going even after Marcus Marshall had blasted a 54th minute penalty over the bar.
Workington had the two best chances early on although Matlock had the better of the play. Jordan Holt shot directly at the home goalkeeper Ross Durrant, who then produced a fine save to keep out a long range strike from Naill Cowperthwaite.
