STAINES’ slide continued as they were comprehensively beaten by bogey side Basingstoke in the autumn sunshine but the story could have been different in the hosts had taken their chances.
Home keeper Max Harris pulled off a fingertip save to prevent Ben Wright from shooting the visitors ahead.
However, Wright’s 17th-minute corner did lead to the Hampshire side’s first goal, touched in by Sam Argent after Charlie Campbell had powerfully headed goalwards.
