■ DAN Humphreys’ unfortunate late own goal saw Aveley snatch a point away to Canvey Island. On 11 minutes, Canvey’s Tobi Joseph set off on a determined run in from the left. Joseph appeared to be fouled after breaking into the area, but referee Ivan Gelov disagreed and waved the penalty appeals away.
This worked in Canvey’s advantage however as the ball fell to the feet of George Woodward, who picked out the bottom corner on his second appearance for the club.
