■ AVELEY took the points in a hard-fought win over play-off chasing Dereham.
Jon Benton, George Sykes and Brendon Shabani all had shots blocked from short range, but the hosts weren’t to be denied for long as a long throw from Jason Ring found George Sykes who fired home on the turn from close range.
Aveley then allowed the visitors to pile pressure on and Dereham were level when Dion Frary nodded in from close range.
Only moments later, though, Aveley were back in front when Sykes fired home his second of the game.
