■JAMES STONE scored the only goal of the game as Eastbourne Town edged past AFC Croydon Athletic at the Saffrons.
Both sides looked to start quickly, but neither created meaningful opportunities during a scrappy half.
AFC Croydon were brightest after the break and looked on top, but it was the hosts who broke the deadlock, against the run of play, after 64 minutes. Stone was slotted in by Marcin Ruda, and swept the ball into the net.
Eastbourne were reduced to ten in the 73th minute when Leon Grieg picked up a second yellow, but held on.
