Whitby Town have ended their search for answers up front by signing Newcastle Benfield striker John Campbell on a two-year deal.
The 28-year-old becomes the Blues second signing of the day after they strengthened their backline with the addition of former Gateshead defender Simon Ramsden.
Benfield favourite Campbell has a mix of Non-League and EFL experience after earning a move to Oxford United in 2014 when scoring 24 goals in 19 games for Jarrow Roofing FC, then of the Northern League Division One.
The striker becomes immediately available for selection by Chris Hardy for their match with Lancaster City on Tuesday evening.
Whitby Town announced the signing of Campbell via their website, saying: “Whitby Town boss Chris Hardy has struck a deal to sign proven goalscorer John Campbell on a two-year contract from Newcastle Benfield.
“His signing comes after several months of hard work by the Blues’ management team to find a striker.”
Campbell could fire the 20th-place Seasiders away from the threat of the relegation zone and as high as ninth with victory against Lancaster in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League.
