Mid-week Evo-Stik Premier preview: Warrington & Altrincham hoping to leapfrog Farsley Celtic

WARRINGTON TOWN and Altrincham both have the opportunity to take advantage of Farsley Celtic‘s absence from the Evo-Stik Premier fixture list tonight, and Paul Carden’s side could even end up top by the end of the night.
Both second place Stourbridge and the third place Villagers are without a game this evening, with Warrington possibly the biggest beneficiaries. They host Lancaster City at Cantilever Park knowing that if all goes perfectly they’ll be at the summit by play’s end.
Current leaders Shaw Lane will be hoping that’s not the case, as they travel to a Mickleover Sports side 15th in the table. Craig Elliott’s side have been formidable so far this season and will fancy their chances against Sports.
If Altrincham win at home to Nantwich Town tonight they’ll move above Farsley Celtic. Phil Parkinson’s side were held to a goalless draw by struggling Stalybridge Celtic at the weekend and will hope to bounce back this evening.
Bottom club Halesowen Town are still reeling from their 5-1 thrashing by Workington on Saturday, and they’ll have another tough task at Barwell tonight. Meanwhile, Witton Albion will be hoping to rebound from back-to-back losses when they face Buxton at Silverlands.
Whitby Town got a nice win over Barwell at the weekend, and will be hoping to add to that with victory at second bottom Stalybridge Celtic tonight. Rushall Olympic put up a good fight against Warrington, and will be hoping to convert that performance into points when they take on Grantham Town at the South Kesteven Sports Stadium this evening.
Matlock Town put five past Sutton Coldfield on Saturday and now face a Hednesford side two places and one point below them in the table, in what is a key match-up.
Finally, the weekend’s other big winners Workington – the aforementioned thumping of Halesowen Town – will be looking to build on that result when they welcome Marine to Borough Park this evening.
