JACK THOMAS gave interim Basford manager Liam Hearn the best possible start by scoring one and setting up the second as Basford saw off Buxton.
The gusty wind made life difficult for players, Matt Thornhill’s early wind-assisted free-kick causing problems for Buxton keeper Theo Roberts.
Basford took the lead in the 17th minute when Nat Watson fed Thomas, who made no mistake with a shot from just inside the box.
Matlock went close seven minutes from halftime as Ash Young’s cross caused problems before being cleared.
