MATLOCK Town goalkeeper Jonathan Stewart pulled off a last-gasp penalty save as the Gladiators held firm at Stafford Rangers.
Deep into injury time, Rangers threw the ball into the Matlock box and a powerful effort struck James Williamson’s arm. Referee Williams had no hesitation in awarding the penalty.
But Josh Green’s kick was the perfect height for Stewart to save and Matlock were left to celebrate a late escape.
The first half had been a war of attrition with both teams battling the heat as well as seeing defences on top.
