■ CITY of Liverpool returned to winning ways with an accomplished performance against Leek Town.
The hosts were much the better side and were buoyed by the arrival of striker Josh Quarless from Burscough, who capped his Purps debut with a fine brace.
The forward opened the scoring late in the first half with a deft back-post header after Jack Hazlehurst’s cross was flicked on. The Purps then went close again through James Murphy’s header, while Danny Taberner produced a fine stop to deny Leek’s William Reeves.
