■CLITHEROE and Runcorn played themselves to a standstill but without reward in front of a large partisan crowd.
It was the home side who edged the possession in the first half, and their pacy football to feet engineered a number of half-chances before Runcorn Linnets had the first of two loud penalty shouts waved away. The second half was equally tight.
Runcorn’s Ryan Brooke volleyed into Chris Thompson’s arms before Max Cane did similarly for Clitheroe at the other end.
