■ JAKE LOVATT’S first-half strike earnedNewcastle Town a tense win over Bootle.
The first half was a scrappy affair, with neither team able to get fully into their stride, and Bootle in particular guilty of giving the ball away too often.
It was a misplaced Bootle backpass that allowed Lovatt to nip in and fire home from the edge of area.
Bootle came back stronger after the break, but were unable to find a way past home keeper Joe Slinn.
