■ MACCLESFIELD edged out Bootle after what was a largely uneventful start to the game. Macclesfield drew first blood as Neil Kengni’s pass picked out James Berry, who poked past Josh Ollerenshaw.
The best chance for the remainder of the first half fell to the hosts. A rapid Arthur Lomax-Jones broke behind the Silkmen back line and lobbed an onrushing Wyll Stanway, but a Macclesfield defender swept away the danger.
Macclesfield netted their second just 15 minutes before the end, as Lewis Fensome’s deflected effort flew in.
