■ SUTTON’S good run of form was severely tested by Spalding United.
The first chance fell to Alex McSkeane when he was put through the middle with a measured pass, but his shot just skimmed a post.
Right on half-time and against the run of play Spalding took the lead when a ball from the left cannoned off Sutton defender Taylor Carter-Byrne, who had no chance of avoiding it.
Spalding increased their lead within minute of the restart when Sutton failed to deal with a corner and Sam Cartwright headed home.
