HEDNESFORD held off a Widnes fight-back to end the hosts’ unbeaten start to the NPL West season.
The Pitmen had led 3-0 early in the second half, but Michael Ellison’s team, who had started the day top of the division, rallied but ultimately fell short.
Hednesford made the best-possible start after their midweek FA Cup exWidnes responded with Dom McGiveron striking a post and James Steele turned a shot wide.
