■ ATHERTON Collieries fought off a remarkable second-half fightback to overcome City of Liverpool in new boss Kevin Lynch’s first game in charge.
Colls raced into a two-goal lead inside the first nine minutes courtesy of a close-range finish from-Calen Gallagher and a tidy effort from Kielen Adams.
On the stroke of half-time Aaron Dwyer made it three from and the game looked beyond doubt. But the Purps rallied at the start of the second half and got one back via Mikey Howard.
