OVER 30 Banbury United supporters are now contributing to a player fund which has already yielded results with the signing of Felipe Barcelos.
The Puritans are fourth in the Evo-Stik League Southern South & West after Saturday’s 3-1 victory against North Leigh made it five wins in a row.
And United have been boosted by the arrival of Brazilian striker Barcelos, whose signing was made possible by the ‘Spencer Villa Fund’.
The fund, titled after the club’s original name, was set up by supporters and secured only to help with the club’s playing budget. It now has over 30 contributors and some of them posed for a photo with Barcelos, above, after the North Leigh win.
Chairman Ronnie Johnson said: “The club are extremely grateful to those supporters who are contributing to the Spencer Villa Fund.
“It demonstrates the commitment that these fans show to their supporters’ owned and community club and has enabled us to improve the squad with a quality player in Felipe that would not have been possible without their support.”
