Chesham United win Southern Premier South

are Pitching In champions and will play Step 2 next season for the first time since 2003.

The Generals won 4-1 at relegation threatened on Easter Monday to clinch the title, moving them 17 points clear with nearest challengers Gosport and only having five matches remaining.

One defeat in their last 18 games has enabled James Duncan and Michael Murray’s side to storm clear of the chasing pack.

It’s their first title since 1997 when they won Isthmian Division One and the joint bosses, who took over in October 2018, were delighted with their achievement.

“This feeling is something we’ve been striving for since we walked through the door,” Murray told the club’s YouTube channel. “We were fortunate to get it at Potters Bar, me as a player, Jay as manager.

“We’ve always progressed, losing in the play-off semi finals last year was heartbreak.

“It was going to be a test but the way we’ve bounced back as a club has been exceptional.

“We’ve been backed by our club. That’s played a massive part to get us where we are. Everyone has been outstanding.”
