■ALEX AKROFI’S second-half strike separated the sides after a tight game in which Wingate nearly salvaged a late point.
Wingate had the clearer first-half chances to take the lead. Skipper Ahmet Rifat spurned a glorious opportunity on two minutes.
And Rob Lainey and Nathan Mavila both had sights of goal before Wingate’s best moment, Sean Cronin’s firm header against the base of the post on 33 minutes.
