HYTHE’S new signing, Zak Ansah, took 27 minutes to open his account.
They could have had another three, but East Grinstead’s Dan Smith made two full-stretch saves and Palmer hit the post.
A defensive mix-up allowed Alex Gaggin to nod home an equaliser, but four minutes later Palmer scored with a 25-yarder.
Hythe’s Ben Wilson was sent off, but they extended their lead through Ansah. There was one more twist when Isaac Hutchinson’s free-kick went through the Hythe wall to make it 3-2.
