ATHERTON Collieries increased their lead at the top of the table with a strong showing against Clitheroe. A thoroughly professional first-half effort proved the key to the Collieries success, heading into the league’s closing stages with form on their side.
Gareth Peet settled home nerves within the first minutes when he converted a penalty after he had been upended. Jordan Cover doubled the advantage when his snapshot from the edge of the box caught Clitheroe custodian Ben Purdham cold.
