MICHAEL Burkey’s early goal was enough to secure a victory for in-form Bootle who strengthen their grip on a play-off place.
His low drive crept inside an upright in the second minute after Conor Harwood used his chest to steer the ball into his path.
Tony Thompson, the visitors’ goalkeeper, produced his best to keep out Sean O’Mahony’s flicked attempt and later Kieran Knapper’s thumping volley when Runcorn mustered a response.
