Ben Greenhalgh has taken over as player manager of Pitching In Isthmian League South East side Margate.
The 32-year-old midfielder has been with ‘gate since the 2021/22 season, surpassing the 50-goal mark earlier this year.
It’s the most appearances he’s made at a single club having begun his career in 2009 with Welling United before featuring in the Sky One show Football‘s Next Star, which earned him a six-month contract with Inter Milan. During his time there he received a Champions League Winners medal after being part of the travelling squad for their 2010 success.
His coaching career began as academy manager with Dartford, before assisting Andy Drury and Reece Prestedge at Margate.
Greenhalgh succeeds Mark Stimson, who was sacked after the club’s relegation from Isthmian Premier last month.
Upon his appointment as manager, Greenhalgh told the official club website:
“It’s a privilege to, not only be part of this club as a player, but to join some great managers in the history books of Margate FC, is not something I take for granted.
“I thank the club for this opportunity and look forward to steering us back to winning ways!”
