FORMER Arsenal, Fulham and England Under 21s midfielder Ian Selley and ex-Southampton coach Ryan Northmore are seeking new opportunities after quitting as managers of Step 6 club Sandhurst Town.
Selley, 46, and Northmore say they departed the Fizzers by mutual consent due to the impact of Covid-19 on the club and the Combined Counties League.
They were due to lead the Berkshire club into an exciting new era following their £2 million cash injection for hosting neighbours Bracknell Town in a unique ground share agreement.
European Cup Winners’ Cup winner Selley, 46, turned out for a number of Non-League clubs including Woking, Lewes, Grays Athletic, Maidstone United, Croydon Athletic, Dorchester Town and Kingstonian and was overseeing his first spell in management after he and Northmore took over at Sandhurst in September with the Fizzers rock bottom of the division one table.
They took the club to 15th of 20 at the season’s curtailment.
A statement issued by Selley on behalf of the pair said: “We have had a great time being part of Sandhurst Town. We took the team from the bottom of the table to midway and before Covid hit. We had set our sights on automatic promotion when we came which was a big ask but was achievable with the squad we brought together.
“The effect that Covid has had on Sandhurst Town means that everything has had to change in the short term. Both Ryan and I wish the Fizzers all the best for the future. It’s a great club and we will continue to support them from afar.”
Sandhurst chairman Tony Dean said: “They left by mutual consent on good terms and there are no issues between us. They had done a good job for us.”
