Scandinavian tests await Welsh trio in UEFA Europa League

ALL three Welsh Premier League clubs face tough Scandinavian tests in the UEFA Europa League first qualifying round following Monday afternoon’s draw.

Gap Connah’s Quay have been paired against Norwegian outfit Stabæk Fotball, who finished third in their domestic competition last season.

With the new Norwegian season already started, Gap Connah’s Quay can take confidence from the fact that Stabæk have lost nine of their 13 games so far in the current campaign and sit second bottom.

Swedish club IFK Goteborg, who finished second last season in their division, stand in the way of MBi Llandudno.

Goteborg, UEFA Cup champions twice in the 1980s, are fifth in the current Swedish campaign after winning six of their first 12 league games.

Bala Town are also facing Swedish opposition having been drawn against AIK Solna, who finished in third place behind Goteborg last season.

They have started the new campaign slightly better, however, and are currently fourth in the Allsvenskan table after 12 games.

All three Welsh sides will play the first legs away before returning to home soil for the second leg.

If they are victorious, Connah’s Quay will take on FK Bokelj or FK Vojvodina, Llandudno will go up against GKS Piast Gliwice while Bala will face FC Pyunik or Europa FC.
