VANARAMA National League Southport have announced the signing of midfielder Gary Jones just days before the start of the season.
The 38-year-old captained Bradford City in the League Cup final at Wembley just two years ago and left Notts County at the end of last season.
During a long career in the Football League, he has played over 600 games and is the all-time appearance holder for Rochdale.
Port boss Paul Carden said: “Gary is a real genuine professional. I played with him at Rochdale where he made 464 appearances which speaks volumes. Gary will add a great deal to the squad and his influence to younger players will be immense.
“I know all about his qualities and he will be a big player. People will question his age but he’s a freak of fitness and the type of experienced player we’ll need this season.”
