TORQUAY UNITED legend Kevin Nicholson has returned to the struggling Vanarama National League club as its new player-manager.
The 34-year-old left-back appeared over 300 times for the Gulls, becoming a fans’ favourite as he helped the club back into the Football League in 2009.
He left Torquay at the end of the 2013-14 season and spent a campaign at Kidderminster Harriers before signing for Bath City in the summer.
However, the lure of his first managerial job at a club close to his heart was too much to turn down for Nicholson and he replaces Paul Cox who quit on September 18.
The Gulls have struggled this season and are currently fourth bottom after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Lincoln City. They have lost six of their last ten games, drawing the other four.
“We are delighted to have Kevin on board as player-manager,” said Torquay United chairman David Phillips.
“As a player for the club, he displayed outstanding consistency over many years and is quite rightly regarded as a legend here.
“We now welcome him back as player-manager to lead the club into what we hope will be an exciting new era.”
