CHELTENHAM TOWN boss Gary Johnson has already started planning for next season, telling seven current players that they will be released at the end of the campaign.
Johnson, who took over the Robins in March, has led the club to the top of the Vanarama National League and they are four points clear of Forest Green Rovers.
While promotion may still be far from guaranteed, Johnson has let seven players know that they have no future at Whaddon Road.
Omari Sterling-James, Jack Deaman, Zack Kotwica, Joe Hanks, James Bowen, Jordan Wynter and Harry Williams will all be released at the end of the season.
Hanks, Williams and Bowen are currently on loan at Gloucester City, Kotwica is temporarily with Cirencester Town, Deaman is spending time at AFC Telford United and Sterling-James is enjoying a spell with Oxford City.
The Robins say they will work with the players to find them new employers and the early decision was made to give them a head-start in the search for their next club.
Boss Johnson said: “It’s a hard decision to make about any player but we are looking to do what is right, not only for the club but also them as individuals so have made the decision now to give them the best possible chance of finding a club.”
