TRANMERE ROVERS continued their resurgence with a remarkable late comeback to win at Barrow on Saturday.
When Andy Cook put Barrow 3-1 ahead in the 87th minute, even the most positive Tranmere fan would have expected to leave Holker Street without a point.
What happened over the next eight minutes was nothing short of spectacular as Rovers, relegated from League Two last season, moved up to eighth in the National League.
Lois Maynard’s crisp right-footed strike in the 90th minute wasn’t expected to be any more than a consolation. Think again.
Some poor defending from a long ball allowed Jeff Hughes to race through in the 93rd minute and he duly rounded keeper Joel Dixon.
And Barrow’s hearts were broken two minutes later when the unlikely turnaround was completed. Jake Kirby’s deflected effort from the edge of the penalty area beat Dixon to give Gary Brabin’s men a remarkable three points.
