LINCOLN CITY boss Chris Moyses says Barrow‘s rejected bid for the Imps’ top scorer Matt Rhead “might have bought his left leg”.
The 31-year-old has had a fine season for Moyses’ men, scoring 18 times in all competitions after signing in the summer from Mansfield.
The man who signed him for Mansfield, Paul Cox, is now in charge at Lincoln’s National League rivals Barrow and chanced his arm with a bid on Saturday.
The offer for the striker was dismissed out of hand by the Imps with Moyses laughing off Barrow’s interest as Lincoln battle to get back into play-off contention,
“Matt’s been attracting a bit of interest, we’re playing to his strengths and I think this is the first time he’s hit double figures in a season,” said the boss.
“The offer might have bought his left leg, that’s about it! Obviously there’s a relationship between their manager and Matt – I think he brought Matt into full-time football at Mansfield from Non-League.
“There’s a connection there but Matt’s happy at Lincoln, he’s scoring goals and he’s playing very well.”
