BRAINTREE TOWN overcame the disappointment of Saturday by beating Kidderminster Harriers thanks to a David Beckham-esque wonder goal from Matt Paine.
The Iron had to settle for a point at Guiseley on Saturday after the home side’s controversial equaliser but they picked up the three points last night against bottom side Kiddy to move up to fourth.
With the game in the balance at 1-1, Paine tried his luck, smashing a loose ball from the halfway line that flew over Harriers keeper Dean Snedker and into the net.
Boss Danny Cowley told the Braintree & Witham Times: “If you didn’t believe in football gods before this game, you should now.
“Having conceded the goal in the manner that we did on Saturday, for Painey to score from the halfway line was pretty special.
“I wasn’t sure he had that in his repertoire but that shows what a good footballer he is.
“To be fair to Matt, he will put his head in front of a bus for the team and is incredibly determined but he’s a good footballer as well.
“He had to have good vision and then the execution – it was a great goal and one that was fit to win any football match.”
