Kevin Nicholson urges focus from resurgent Torquay United

player-manager has urged his squad “not to get carried away” after they climbed three points clear of the relegation zone.

Nathan Blissett and Iffy Allen scored in the Gulls 2-0 win over on Tuesday night – their third victory in five games.

Just two months ago the Devon side were in deep trouble and 12 points adrift of safety but a run of two defeats in 12 has given them a great chance of survival.

They are now three points clear of fourth bottom but Nicholson has made it clear to his side that the hard work isn’t quite done yet.

“It is a bit harder not to get carried away when you start reading and hearing nice things about yourself,” he told BBC Radio Devon. “But they also realise there’s a job to be done and we haven’t done it yet.

“In fairness to them, most of the time they get the message, most of the time they come into training, win lose or draw, with the same attitude, the same character and the same work rate.

“I try and do that myself because the last thing you need to see is a manager over the moon one minute and absolutely full-on depressed the next, but there’s work to do.”
