YORK CITY have made striker Richard Brodie their second summer signing following the addition of Jack Higgins from Stalybridge Celtic.
Brodie, 28, returns to Bootham Crescent having enjoyed a fruitful spell with the Minstermen from 2007-2010.
He scored 69 times for York, including 34 in his final season with the club, before moving to Crawley Town for an undisclosed fee.
Brodie helped the Red Devils to the Conference title before he lifted the championship again 12 months later after signing for Fleetwood Town.
He has turned out for Morecambe, Grimsby Town, Gateshead, Hereford United and Southport over the past few years before signing with Aldershot Town last August.
The striker ended the season in the National League North with Stockport County but he is now back with York, where he spent “the happiest time” of his career.
He said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be back and it was just a formality once I knew that the club were interested.
“Unfortunately the club got relegated to the Conference and I feel like I’ve got some unfinished business here as I couldn’t get them into the Football League the last time round.
“My previous spell at York was the happiest time of my career. I moved on and the club received a massive sum of money but I’ve come back to start afresh.
“I think I’ve improved over the past few years. I’ve had a few too many clubs, some that were my fault and others that weren’t. I’ll wear the shirt with pride and work as hard as I can.”
Brodie becomes boss Jackie McNamara’s second signing of the summer after he brought in Higgins from National League North side Stalybridge Celtic.
The 24-year-old central defender has signed a two-year deal with the Minstermen after ending last season as Celtic’s top scorer with 13 goals.
