TRANMERE ROVERS have lured striker Andy Cook from National League rivals Barrow on a two-year deal.
Cook, 25, scored 24 times for the Bluebirds last season making him the third highest goalscorer in Non-League‘s top tier.
He scored 23 times the season before as Barrow won the Conference North title and his goalscoring exploits attracted the interest of a number of clubs.
But it’s Tranmere who have won the race for his signature and boss Gary Brabin will be hoping his new striker can form a formidable partnership with James Norwood who netted 19 league goals last season.
Cook started his career with Carlisle United but failed to make the breakthrough at Brunton Park and signed for Barrow in January 2011 after successful loan spells.
He earned a move to Grimsby in June 2012, spending two years with the Mariners, scoring in the 2013 FA Trophy final at Wembley, before moving back to Barrow.
Tranmere boss Brabin said: “I am delighted to be able to bring Andy Cook to the club. He is a hard-working player who has consistently been scoring 20+ goals per season, which made him one of my top priority targets.
“We know that we need to improve our performance in front of goal, and I am sure that Andy will play a big role in helping us to achieve that.”
Barrow, meanwhile, have bolstered their squad with the addition of winger Lindon Meikle, who left National League North side Alfreton Town.
He is reunited with boss Paul Cox, who he played under at Mansfield Town, after also playing for York City and Macclesfield Town last term.
Cox has also secured midfielder Andy Parry, who enjoyed a successful loan spell from Luton, as well as Alex-Ray Harvey who has signed a new one-year deal.
