MATT MAINWARING has signed a permanent deal with Stockport County that runs until January 1, 2013.
The 22-year-old spent time with Manchester United and Preston North End as a teenager before linking up with County in 2008.
He remained at Edgely Park until he was released in September 2011 and subsequently went on trial with Hull City, signing a contract with the Tigers at the start of this year.
However, it wasn’t long before he returned to Stockport on loan and the midfielder went on to make 15 league appearances for the Hatters at the back end of last season.
Mainwaring was released by Hull in the summer and ended up rejoining the Hatters on non-contract terms in September.
He has since featured seven times for them and his performances in those games have earned him a short-term deal with Jim Gannon’s men.
Speaking to the club’s website, Gannon said: “I am delighted to have secured Matt on a contract until January, he has fully deserved it with his performances.
“In the New Year we are hoping to extend his stay until the end of the season at least.”
