BRAINTREE TOWN boss Jamie Day has continued to strengthen his squad ahead of the new National League season, signing goalkeeper Jamie Butler for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old England C stopper impressed at National League South side Hemel Hempstead Town last season and hit the headlines after scoring a bizarre goal from his own area against champions Sutton United.
Butler was shortlisted for the Reusch Goalkeeper of the Year at our National Game Awards and will be stepping up to Non-League‘s top tier next season.
New Iron boss Day identified Butler as one of his top targets and has managed to take him to Cressing Road after agreeing a fee with Hemel for the ex-Met Police and Canvey Island keeper.
Boss Day said: “I’ve long been impressed with Jamie and he has done really well over the last couple of years. Stepping up to the National League level will be a great opportunity for him. He’ll be an important part of the spine of our side.”
Butler follows the arrivals of midfielder Harry Lee and full-back Barney Williams from Day’s former club Welling United while striker Michael Cheek and midfielder Chez Isaac have signed new one-year contracts.
