TRANMERE ROVERS have secured the return of former Northern Ireland midfielder Jeff Hughes on a permanent deal from Cambridge United.
The 31-year-old, who has two caps for his country, joined Rovers on loan at the beginning of January and made 18 appearances for Gary Brabin’s side.
The experienced midfielder clearly did enough to impress the boss and he has returned to Prenton Park on a two-year deal after leaving League Two side Cambridge.
He has plenty of Football League appearances under his belt, previously featuring for Lincoln City, Crystal Palace, Bristol Rovers, Notts County and Fleetwood Town.
Tranmere manager Brabin told the club’s website: “I’m delighted to bring Jeff back to the club. He did a really good job for us at the end of last season.
“He is a really good passer of the ball, can play in a number of different positions but always keeps the same high quality wherever he is asked to play.
“He fitted in really well with the squad last season so I’m really pleased to be able to bring him back to Prenton Park for the forthcoming campaign.
“I think we have made excellent and exciting signings this summer and we’re all looking forward to the start of the new season.”
