Gary Mills pleased with pre-season as Wrexham ‘pull together’

boss says the whole club are pulling together after a busy summer of recruiting in north Wales.

The Red Dragons have brought in a raft of new players with Mills looking to improve on last season’s eighth-place finish in the .

The spine of Mills’ side will look a lot different next season, with keepers Shwan Jalal and Chris Dunn brought in to fight for the number one shirt.

Martin Riley, Curtis Tilt and Hamza Bencherif will give Mills more defensive options while John Rooney, Anthony Barry, Paul Rutherford and Nortei Nortey will feature in the Dragons’ midfield.

Mills may have lost explosive striker Kayden Jackson to Barnsley but it’s hoped Michael Bakare, Jordan White, Khaellem Bailey-Nicholls and Callum Powell will give National League defences some nightmares.

The Racecourse boss is pleased with the club’s pre-season and the mix of players he has been able to bring in, from experienced pros such as Barry and Riley to youngsters like Bailey-Nicholls and Powell.

“It’s a new squad and what I do like is from day one they’ve been pulling together and helping each other,” Mills told BBC Sport.

“I’ve not noticed one player that’s creating an issue with anything. We’ve got a good mix with some experience in there with some younger players.

“I’ve brought in a couple of youth lads who have settled in and doing well. I’ve been really pleased with it.”
