boss Jamie Day is confident his new look squad can adapt to the rigours of the .

Day looks to have his squad set now after making another five new signings this week ahead of the season opener at United on Saturday.

Former Stevenage defender Jerome Okimo, pictured above, spent two seasons with the League Two side but was released at the end of last term.

Also joining the Iron are defenders Ian Gayle, Jake Goodman and Quade Taylor as well as goalkeeper Sam Cowler.

Gayle, 23, was released by Braintree’s new league rivals Dagenham at the end of last season while Goodman started his career with Millwall.

Taylor, who spent time on loan at Dagenham last season, joins having been released by Bolton Wanderers and ex- stopper Cowler has also put pen to paper.

It’s been a busy summer for Day, who replaced Lincoln-bound Danny Cowley, with just three of last season’s squad – who did brilliantly to finish third in the National League – still at Cressing Road.

“I knew it would be a really hard job to literally start from scratch but the new players have come in, worked hard in training and we have improved as a team ever friendly game we have played,” Day told the club’s website.

“There’s still a lot of work to do but it’s taking shape, players are helping each other and we’re getting more cohesion together but we all know these things take time.

“We know what to expect at this level and I think we have a good blend of experienced players and younger, ambitious players who can adapt to this level.”
