LINCOLN CITY have added some vital experience to their squad, signing two-time Conference promotion winner Tom Champion.
The 30-year-old, who started his career with Barnet in 2004, returned to the Bees last summer and has now made the switch to National League leaders Lincoln, joining on a 93-day loan.
After being part of the Paul Fairclough side that won the Conference in 2004-05, Champion went on to play for Bishop’s Stortford and Dartford before earning a move back into the professional game with Cambridge United in 2013.
The tough tackling midfielder spent two years with the U’s, helping them win the Conference play-offs and FA Trophy in 2013-14.
He returned to Barnet in May 2015, making 30 appearances last term, but he has found minutes hard to come by this season, playing just once.
Champion goes straight into the squad for Tuesday night’s game against Solihull Moors and he told the club’s website: “I had a conversation with Danny (Cowley, manager) and it was a no-brainer for me.
“I had a good time in this league with Cambridge not so long ago and Danny said he wanted some experience and know-how from this division.
“You need a great togetherness which we had at Cambridge. As a unit, we all knew our roles and the signs are bright here at Lincoln.
“I’m used to playing week in, week out so not playing was something I wasn’t used to. I’ve not played as much as I wanted to so I was more than happy to join a club on the up.”
With Lincoln top of the pile and adding Champion to their ranks, they could be in for a memorable season. Cash in on their success with some great sign up offers at Colussus Bets.
