Tranmere Rovers part company with boss Gary Brabin

TRANMERE ROVERS have parted company with boss Gary Brabin and hope to bring somebody in who can “take the club to the next stage”.

The former Cambridge, Luton and boss took over at Prenton Park in May 2015 following the club’s relegation from League Two.

The 45-year-old led the club to sixth in the last season as they narrowly missed out on a play-off place by two points.

Hopes were high this term after some impressive summer signings, including forwards Connor Jennings from and Andy Cook from , and the early signs looked good.

Rovers won six and drew one of their opening seven league fixtures and led the way early on as Brabin was named August’s manager of the month.

The good start was quickly replaced by a run of poor form, however, and Saturday’s disappointing 1-0 defeat at promoted Sutton United was the final straw.

The loss at Gander Green Lane left Tranmere with no wins in their last four games – three of which were defeats – and no goals in their last three. The result left Brabin’s side in fifth and four points off leaders Dagenham & .

Rovers fans let their feelings be known after the final whistle and chairman Mark Palios confirmed on Sunday that Brabin had left the club.

In a statement, Palios said: “Gary Brabin and I have agreed today that his position at Tranmere will end immediately.

“I would like to thank Gary for his hard work and contribution over the past 16 months in building a strong squad of players, getting us back fighting for promotion places and setting some club records in the process.
“However, we have agreed that it is best now to allow someone else to take the club to the next stage. The club will make a statement regarding interim arrangements shortly.”
