DANNY COWLEY has confirmed Lincoln City are in talks with Braintree Town over winger Simeon Akinola while the Imps boss is also considering ex-Watford striker Theo Robinson.
Cowley knows all about Akinola’s quality having managed him at Braintree and he remains an admirer of his at new club Lincoln.
The former Harrow Borough man is out of contract at the end of the season and Braintree boss Hakan Hayrettin says the club would be willing to cash in if the offer was right.
The 24-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best attacking players outside the Football League and Cowley would love to welcome him to Sincil Bank.
Cowley told the Lincolnshire Echo: “We made an enquiry in the summer and we’ve had conversations over a period of time and they’re ongoing.
“When there’s a transfer, there’s always three parties – two clubs and the player – and it’s got to be right for everyone, which is the difficult part.
“I’ve got no doubt Simeon is a player a lot of clubs would like because he’s an excellent player at this level.
“He’s got good speed and agility and is someone who gets supporters off their seats. He can play wide or down the middle and does both well. So he’s a player we like but we’re respectful that he plays for Braintree Town.”
Cowley, meanwhile, is also weighing up an offer for Robinson, who is a free agent after leaving League One side Port Vale at the end of last season.
The 27-year-old Jamaica international, who has played in the Premier League for Watford, has been training with the Imps and Cowley said: “He has found himself without a club, which can happen in football sometimes, but we are well aware of his quality.
“He is quick, pacey and powerful and could give us real penetration and a real goal threat. He certainly has qualities that could benefit the group.”
