MACCLESFIELD TOWN boss John Askey has made three signings as his side look to put an end to their four-match winless run.
The Silkmen have enjoyed a positive start to the season and currently sit eighth in the National League, just a point outside the play-off places.
Askey, who was made the bookies’ favourite to replace Gary Mills at Wrexham before Dean Keates’ appointment, has welcomed some new faces to the Moss Rose ahead of Saturday’s trip to Maidstone.
The first of the trio is former Swansea City and England youth international defender Curtis Obeng. The 27-year-old made his name at Wrexham, earning a move to the Premier League Swans in 2012 for a reported fee of £200,000.
Following several loan spells away from the Liberty Stadium, he was released last summer and has now returned to Non-League.
Also joining Macc is Iran U21 international midfielder Navid Nasseri, who spent time at Manchester United and Blackburn as a schoolboy.
He later joined Bury and then Championship club Birmingham City but left the club after failing to break into the first team at St Andrew’s.
Askey has also bolstered his forward line with the addition of 25-year-old Italian-born striker Cody Ruberto, who had been on trial at National League North club Stockport County.
Ruberto started his career in Canada, scoring 24 goals for Calgary Callies as they won the Canadian Championship. He then returned to Italy with Ascoli before spending two-years at French outfit AC Bastia.
Spells with Serie B side Brescia Calcio and then Athletico Montichiari, Porto Torres, Valenzana Mado and, from January 2016, Oppeano, followed.
Ruberto will now be looking to make his mark in English football, joining a Macc side that have scored 24 times in 17 games.
