boss believes new signing Jon Parkin’s experience will be vital as the club look to climb up the .

The Minstermen drew 1-1 at home to fellow strugglers on Tuesday night to leave them second bottom of the table and four points adrift of safety.

Mills is yet to taste victory since returning to Bootham Crescent for his second spell in charge in October and the lack of goals has been a big problem.

The ex- and boss hopes the addition of Parkin, 34, will give his side a boost ahead of Saturday’s trip to high-flying Tranmere.

Parkin, who played for York from 2002 to 2004, was ‘ top scorer in each of the last two seasons but left in the summer and subsequently signed for League Two side Newport County.

He scored four goals in 11 games for the Exiles but has signed for York on loan with a view to making the deal permanent in January.

On Parkin’s arrival, boss Mills told the York Press: “We’ve managed to get him to come to us and we need some men up there in attack.

“He’s experienced and a great character, who I’m sure will give all the players a lift when he comes into the dressing room.

“He will give us something a bit different and he knows this league and understands the game, including when to get in front of your man and get a foul, rather than giving one away.

“I’m looking forward to having him here because you know, if the ball goes into the box, whether it’s from a set-piece or in general play, he has the presence to win it and score goals.

“He’s looking forward to coming here too and the challenge of where we are doesn’t frighten him. He’s told me it inspires him, because he wants to help us out of it and I’m sure he will.”
