SOLIHULL MOORS boss Liam McDonald has backed in-form Omari Sterling-James to get even better after the winger penned a new deal with the club.
The 23-year-old signed for the National League outfit in the summer and has committed his future to the Moors after scoring four goals in his last two games against Dagenham & Redbridge and Chester.
Sterling-James has looked unstoppable at times since being reunited with former boss Liam McDonald, who replaced Marcus Bignot as Moors manager in November.
The former Alvechurch, Redditch, Oxford City, Gloucester City and Cheltenham winger has made 27 appearances in all competitions for the Moors, scoring six times.
His recent form has seen him be rewarded with a new contract and boss McDonald expects the youngster to kick on as Moors fight to stay in Non-League‘s top flight.
McDonald, who has released French defender Joel Dielna, told the club’s website: “It’s good to be back working with Omari again having originally taken him from Step 5 to Step 3 when he joined me at Redditch from Alvechurch in 2013 before he went on to the Football League with Cheltenham.
“It’s an absolute pleasure working with a player of Omari’s ability and the next priority for me is to make him an even better player which is why we’ve given him a new contract.
“Omari has the potential to be a very good player and the challenge now is to make him more consistent. He’s shown his value to the team in our last two games where at times he was unplayable and scored great goals.
“He’s been fantastic and deserves all of the plaudits he’s been getting. Teams are fearing him at the moment because he’s not just good for scoring goals but creating them too.
“Omari’s playing with a smile on his face and enjoying his football at the moment which is always important but we want to keep him focused and help to make him an even better player.”
Sterling-James added: “I’m thoroughly enjoying my football at the moment and feel in a good place in my playing career here at Solihull.
“I’ve really enjoyed working with Liam McDonald again and feel that this football club is going places which is why I decided to sign a new contract.”
Meanwhile, Moors were left disappointed after Solihull Council blocked the opening of the club’s new stand on Boxing Day.
The new 550-capacity stand at the Draintech End of Damson Park was set to be opened for the first time for the visit of Chester but the local authority had other ideas.
A club statement read: “The move comes as a great disappointment to the board of directors who have been in regular contact with the authority in recent weeks to ensure all relevant safety measures.
“It is now hoped that relevant authorities give the new stand the green light to be opened in the New Year, with the visit of Gateshead up next on Saturday, January 7″
