DANNY COWLEY has revealed that Lincoln City have rejected an approach for one of their key players but the boss expects more enquiries to come.
The Imps claimed national headlines on Tuesday night when they beat Championship club Ipswich Town in their FA Cup third round replay.
Cowley’s men are also flying high at the top of the National League with games in hand after a fantastic first half of the season.
Unsurprisingly, some of Lincoln’s squad have been gaining interest from the Football League and the boss says a bid has already been lodged for an unnamed player – and rebuffed.
“It was more money and from a club at a higher level,” Cowley told Lincolnshire Live. “But we’re on a journey, he understands that and wants to be part of that.
“He knows what the focus and the ambition is here. He loves playing for this football club in front of our fantastic supporters.
“If a bigger and better club comes in and I think it is the right move for the player then I will tell him that. It is my integrity and my reputation so I will always tell them the truth.
“I think it’s natural that you’re likely to get interest for your players when you’re doing well. I’d only worry if we weren’t getting interest. I embrace it and I’m pleased that they’re getting the coverage they deserve.”
Cowley has also confirmed that he will be enter discussions soon with players whose contracts are running out at the end of the season.
“Once we get through this run of games, we’ll sit down with players and their representatives and look to try and extend their contracts,” he added.
“I’m a pretty simple man: if you give me everything you’ve got then I’ll make sure you get looked after accordingly and that’s how I work. You’d be crazy to want to leave this football club.”
