WINGER Elliott Frear is hoping to follow in the footsteps of former Non-League players and become a success at Motherwell after completing his move from Forest Green Rovers.
The 26-year-old, who has been at Forest Green since June 2014, joins Motherwell for an undisclosed fee and has signed a two-and-a-half year deal.
He becomes the latest Non-League player to move to Fir Park, following the likes of Marvin Johnson, Louis Moult, Ben Heneghan and Ryan Bowman north of the border.
Frear was widely considered one of the brightest talents in Non-Legue football and was named Forest Green’s players’ player of the season last term as he helped the club to Wembley where they lost in the National League promotion final.
The former Salisbury man had made 19 National League appearances this term for Rovers, scoring once and laying on eight assists.
Frear told Motherwell’s website: “I’m delighted, it’s been a long window to be honest because I know that there was interest last summer, but it’s been good to get up here this morning and I’m just glad to get it done.
“I know a few of the boys here already from playing in the National League so I’m really looking forward to get going.
“That was one of the main things really – along with signing for a big club like Motherwell – seeing the likes of Louis Moult and Marvin Johnson go on to do well here, so hopefully I can make the same impact and kick on.”
Forest Green boss Mark Cooper added: “Elliott is a nice lad and we wish him all the best for his move in Scotland. We hope it goes well for him.”
