have confirmed it will be “business as usual” despite a fire causing damage at their Nethermoor Park home on Tuesday night.

A member of the public phoned the West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service at at 9.30pm on Tuesday night with smoke emitting from one of the turnstiles in the ground.

Firefighters arrived and saw smoke coming from an office next to the turnstiles and only their quick work stopped the fire from spreading to the neighbouring changing rooms.

The roof was removed off the office building to stop the flames from spreading before the fire was eventually put out.

The club are dealing with smoke and water damage after the blaze, which is being treated as a suspected arson.

While the Lions had to cancel Wednesday’s academy game against Hyde and their ladies team’s game against Hull City on Sunday, they are confident Nethermoor will be good to go for their next first team game against on Saturday, February 11.

General manager Adie Towers said: “The club would like to thank the member of the public who alerted the emergency services and thank the fire service for their swift response to the incident, which prevented the fire spreading to the changing rooms and clubhouse and causing more extensive damage.

“We would also like to thank Richard McGrath, from our neighbours Guiseley Cricket Club for his assistance.

“Our next home game in the National League against Eastleigh on Saturday February 11 will go ahead – it will be business as usual.”

Chris Hargreaves, watch commander for Shipley Fire Station, told the Wharfedale Observer: “Luckily we got there quickly and thanks to the actions of both crews we were able to stop the fire from spreading.

“The building was heavily smoke logged. We had it under control in about 20 minutes, but we stayed there for three hours, making the building safe.

“The fire had just started to catch the roofing of the changing rooms, but luckily we stopped it in time.”
