JONATHAN SMITH has dropped down a division to join Conference Premier title-chasers Luton Town from York City.
Smith’s career began at Morecambe but only represented the Shrimps once before moving to Forest Green Rovers in 2007.
He was a regular for the New Lawn outfit for three seasons, making over 100 appearances for them and netting 18 goals from midfield.
The 26-year-old swapped Rovers for York City in the summer of 2010 and his extremely impressive 2010/11 campaign earned him a 30,000 pound move to Swindon a year later.
Smith played a big part in the Robins’ promotion from League Two last term, starting 28 games and featuring in a further 10 as a substitute.
However, he rejoined York earlier this year and has so far played in 13 games for Gary Mills‘ men.
Luton boss Paul Buckle is delighted to have been able to bring him in on loan until January.
Speaking to the club’s website, he said: “Jonathan was a player I tried to sign in the summer. He played a major part in winning the title at Swindon so he gives us another winner in the squad.
