Luton Town Add Jonathan Smith To Their Ranks

JONATHAN SMITH has dropped down a division to join Conference Premier title-chasers Luton Town from .

Smith’s career began at Morecambe but only represented the Shrimps once before moving to in 2007.

He was a regular for the New Lawn outfit for three seasons, making over 100 appearances for them and netting 18 goals from midfield.

The 26-year-old swapped Rovers for York City in the summer of 2010 and his extremely impressive 2010/11 campaign earned him a 30,000 pound move to Swindon a year later.

Smith played a big part in the Robins’ promotion from League Two last term, starting 28 games and featuring in a further 10 as a substitute.

However, he rejoined York earlier this year and has so far played in 13 games for ‘ men.

Luton boss Paul Buckle is delighted to have been able to bring him in on loan until January.

Speaking to the club’s website, he said: “Jonathan was a player I tried to sign in the summer. He played a major part in winning the title at Swindon so he gives us another winner in the squad.

“He was keen thought to stay in the League and we understood that but, I’m thrilled that we’ve been able to get him now.
“He joins at a time when the pitches are getting heavier and he’ll give us that extra in centre of midfield.
“He played a disciplined role in midfield for Swindon last season in a deeper position where he was responsible for breaking up play and protecting the back defence, but he still popped up with three terrific goals.
“Jonathan’s arrival is a massive boost to us at a time when injuries and suspensions will crop up at an important segment of the season in the run up to Christmas and the New Year.”
