Chris Holroyd and James Jennings are the next to sign up for Wrexham

boss Dean Keates has brought defender James Jennings back to the club on a two-year deal following a successful loan spell – while also adding striker Chris Holroyd from .

Keates led the Red Dragons to a 13th-place finish in the before releasing nine players including Player of the Year Martin Riley and skipper Rob Evans.

It means the boss will have a big rebuilding job on his hands this summer but he has already made a good start, bringing in defenders James Hurst and Shaun Pearson.

He has now added to his ranks with the addition of Jennings on a two-year deal and Holroyd, who has signed a 12-month contract.

Left-back Jennings, 29, played the second half of last season on loan at Wrexham from Cheltenham Town and has now agreed a permanent move to north Wales.

Forward Holroyd, 30, scored 14 times for Macclesfield last season and helped them to the final at . He has moved to Wrexham after four seasons with the Silkmen.

Boss Keates told the club’s website: “We have got Chris, a player I have always been impressed with, both from playing against and now watching games, and he’s another to have played at a much higher level.

“He has a great brain, can play up top on his own or in a two or three, but what impressed me most was his movement. He’s bright and intelligent as a player, he’ll come short, get into pockets, link up play, while also knowing when to stretch the play and get in behind.

“With James, you could see the difference when he first arrived in January, both on the pitch and in the building.

“From the first conversation we had with him back then, it was with a one eye on the season after and the one after that.

“Obviously, we have put him on a two-year contract and I’m delighted that he has agreed to come to us.

“He’s a great influence in and around the place, so to land him here shows that we’re putting in place a structure and he’s the right type of character to take the club forward.”
